Joined by his parents and grandparents, Aaron addressed the entire student body of Mater Dei to officially announce his decision. Thompson, who will go down as one of the most successful IHSAA players of all time accumulated a 104-7 record throughout his four years. All 111 of his matches were played at #1 singles. 

His senior proved to be another great year. Aaron managed to compile a record of 28-1 before losing to the eventual IHSAA State Champion. 

Aaron will join Xavier’s Men’s Tennis team in the fall of 2019. He continues to play high level events and plans on training full time until he leaves for school. 

Congratulations Aaron on the wonderful achievement and hard work! We look forward to following your career at Xavier.

Aaron , who has been ranked as high as top 30 in the Midwest, according to USTA rankings, will join a solid 2019 recruiting class for the Musketeers.  Aaron will be the third player from the ETC program to play at Xavier. Kara Courtney (’05-’09) and Anthony Palmenter (’06-’10) previously played for the Musketeers.

Aaron is the 9th ETC player in the past two years to commit or sign a National Letter of Intent to play in college.

Sarah Monesmith Will Be A Bulldog https://www.evansvilletennis.com/sarah-monesmith-will-be-a-bulldog/ Tue, 21 Nov 2017 19:08:01 +0000 http://www.evansvilletennis.com/?p=10518 Read More ...]]> Jasper High School Senior, Sarah Monesmith held a signing party Monday, November 20th to celebrate with friends, family and coaches as she announced her decision to commit to play for Butler University.  By signing her letter of intent to play for Butler, Sarah will become the 2nd ETC player to join the Butler Women’s Tennis Team. Sarah earned IHSAA All-State Honors in 2016 and 2017 as a member of the Jasper Girls High School Team. She has also earned a spot on the USTA Central Indiana Cup Team where she and other players represented our area and competed against the best players in the Midwest and the Country.

Butler recently joined the Big East conference that includes Xavier University, Marquette University, Villanova University and more. Last year the lady Bulldogs finished with a season record of 5-18. The team looks to continue to improve with the help of two strong recruiting classes. Last years’ class included ETC player Lauren Marx.

Butler is set to start the season against Purdue University January 13th.

The University of Southern Indiana women’s tennis team earned its third consecutive victory Wednesday night by defeating Daemen College 8-1 at the Evansville Tennis Center.

USI (6-4) swept doubles play for a 3-0 lead going into singles. Taking the 8-5 win at number one doubles was junior Kelsey Shipman (Olney, Illinois) and senior Brenna Wu (Evansville, Indiana). Shipman would go on to win at number one singles, 6-3, 6-2.

At number three singles, freshman Lauren Hambrock (Terre Haute, Indiana) had a clean sweep, winning 6-0, 6-0. Senior Kymberly Brannon (Louisville, Kentucky) picked up the win at number four singles with a 6-1, 6-2 tally. Brannon and Hambrock also teamed up for an 8-2 win at number two doubles.

Freshman Alex Jamison (Floyds Knobs, Indiana) and junior Haley Jones (Ft. Branch, Indiana) grabbed the win at number three doubles by a score of 8-4. Jones also won at number six singles 6-1, 6-0, while Jamison was the victor at number five 6-0, 6-1.

Next up for the Screaming Eagles is a match against Wright State Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Wesselman Park.


The University of Southern Indiana men’s tennis team swept Daemen College 9-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Evansville Tennis Center. The win improved the 34th-ranked Screaming Eagles’ record to 10-5.

Sophomores Ilia Karelin (Ekaterinburg, Russia) and Andrew Dones (Georgetown, Indiana) scored the first point of the day for USI winning at number three doubles 8-0 as the Eagles never looked back. Dones went on to win his number six singles match 6-0, 6-0, while Karelin won at number five 6-1, 6-1.

In singles, sophomore James Hardiman (Backwell Bristol, United Kingdom) tallied a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number one and freshman Denis Davydov (Chorvatsky Grob, Slovakia) grabbed the win at number two, 6-1, 6-2. Hardiman and Davydov teamed up at number one doubles for an 8-4 win.

Picking up the final point in doubles was junior Samuel Kiladejo (London, England) and senior Aaron Barris (Marietta, Georgia) at number two, 8-5. Barris would go on to win at number four singles 6-1, 6-2, and Kiladejo was victorious at number three, 6-2, 6-4.

The Eagles will take part in the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover this weekend, playing Ferris State University, Northwood University and Rockhurst University in Plainfield, Illinois. USI will play Ferris State first on Friday morning at 7:30 a.m.

Greenwell is a sophomore at Wabash College. As a freshman Greenwell played all three spots in doubles winning 18 matches and winning 10 of his last 12. Playing steadily at #3 Singles, Greenwell tallying 22 wins.

Lauryn, after several months of contemplating and weighing options decided to join Coach Keely Porter at USI. Lauryn is the third ETC player to play for the Screaming Eagles. Both Brenna Wu and Haley Jones are currently on the team now.

Lauryn expects to contribute right away next year. She is hopeful for a successful season as the team returns a few key members, while also adding three recruits.

Lauren is the oldest of 5 siblings and has been a member of our Academy class for years. We are extremely proud of Lauren and all of her accomplishments. She set a goal of playing college tennis several years ago and can finally say she has accomplished it. Her hard work, positive attitude and leadership has had an effect on all our her peers.
